Welcome From Will Lightbourne
As someone who has served the people of California for the better part of three decades, I take great pride in the work which has been done across the state to serve, aid, and protect needy and vulnerable children and adults. That sense of accomplishment is shared by more than four thousand employees of the California Department of Social Services and thousands more in communities across the state who work tirelessly to strengthen and preserve families, encourage personal responsibility and foster independence.
Whether through California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids benefits, CalFresh, In-Home Supportive Services or Supplemental Security Income/State Supplementary Program, we help the more than three million children, families, adults, elderly, disabled, and blind Californians in receiving the life sustaining assistance they so desperately need every day.
I am honored to serve under Governor Brown and Secretary Dooley in leading a Department committed to delivering essential services to California’s most vulnerable and at-risk residents. Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of children and adults is a top priority of this Administration and the California Department of Social Services. We will continue to set priorities which address the needs of California’s diverse population and provide equal opportunity to all who strive to break the cycle of poverty and achieve self-sufficiency.
