INSTRUCTIONS
In order to download and complete an automated survey, please follow these steps:
- RIGHT CLICK on the link you wish to download and select SAVE TARGET AS . This function will allow you to save the file to your PC.
- A window will prompt you to save the automated survey to your PC. You will need to SAVE this document to your PC in order to enable the automated features included with the survey.
- Once the file is downloaded, open the Excel file for use.
- The automated survey is an Excel Spreadsheet. Double click on the file to open the document. You may be prompted with a message box asking if you want to enable or disable the macros; select the option to ENABLE MACROS . If you are prompted with a message box telling you that the macros have been disabled, click "OK." After the survey file opens, click the "System Requirements" button. You will be linked to pages that provide instructions for changing your PC's settings so that macros can be enabled. Macros must be enabled for the survey for the survey to function properly.
- The survey contains validation features. Some validation features are in the form of the pop-up prompts that will identify a problem with a particular response as the user answers some questions and other validation features will "RED CIRCLE" invalid data.
- The "RED CIRCLE" indicates that data is missing or inconsistent with another response that is linked to the question where the "RED CIRCLE" appears. The user may opt to use "RED CIRCLE" feature intermittently or the "RED CIRCLE" feature will apply automatically after the user has completed the survey and attempts to e-mail it. When the "RED CIRCLE" feature is used intermittently, the user may follow these steps:
- Click on the "Check Your Answers" button located on the top toolbar of the survey page. This will "RED CIRCLE" invalid data in all fields where there are errors or incomplete data.
- Click on the "Check Your Answers" button again after making corrections and clicking out of corrected cells. This will allow the user to view if all items have been appropriately corrected.
- Click the "Clear Red Circles" button and continue completing the remaining portion of the survey.
- Repeat steps A through C as you complete the survey pages as often as desired.
- The "RED CIRCLE" validation feature applies automatically when the user has completed the survey and attempts to e-mail the survey. The e-mail will not be accepted if there are errors. Once the survey is completed the following steps apply:
- You can simply click the "E-Mail Survey" button. This will open your default e-mail software program and automatically attach the completed Excel Spreadsheet.
- Simply "SEND" and the process is complete.
- If the survey contains invalid data, the "E-Mail Survey" button will place a "RED CIRCLE" around all the invalid data and the user will be required to re-enter valid data/corrections then repeat steps A and B before the program will allow you to send the survey.

Resource Family Recruitment, Training and Retention
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS), Child and Youth Permanency Branch (CYPB) has placed online the annual Resource Family Recruitment, Training and Retention Survey. This Survey was initially developed in 2001 to replace the annual county plan that was submitted to CDSS to claim Foster Parent Training and Recruitment allocations pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code Section 903.8 (Assembly Bill 2129, Chapter 1089, Statutes of 1993). The Survey is being administered by the Data Systems and Survey Design Bureau (DSSDB).

Food Stamp Program Survey of Operations and Access
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS), Food Stamp Branch (FSB) has placed online the Food Stamp Program Survey of Operations and Access. State regulations require that all County Welfare Departments (CWDs) annually complete the survey to allow for the review of individual county operations that provide families access to food stamp benefits. This survey also provides CDSS with information mandated by Welfare and Institutions Code Section 18918, Statutes of 2001, which requires a community outreach and education campaign to help families learn about and apply for food stamp benefits.
