Food Distribution Unit (FDU)
The Food Distribution Unit (FDU) administers several food distribution programs throughout the State of California.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) commodities to a network of 49 food
banks for distribution to eligible individuals and households within 58 counties. In order to be eligible for USDA commodities, a recipient
or household must reside in the geographical area being served and meet
established income guidelines.
Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)
CSFP is a USDA program currently administered by the CDSS through ten local agencies. The program is designed to improve the health of low-income seniors by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA approved foods. The CSFP is currently operated in California by the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, San Francisco Food Bank, Community Action Partnership of Orange County, Redwood Empire Food Bank, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, The Modesto Love Center, Community Action Partnership of Kern, Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services, Food Bank of Contra Costa County and Solano, and FOOD Share, Inc.
In addition, FDU also administers the following programs:
- California Food Bank Capacity Program
- Diaper Program
- Disaster Emergency Food Assistance Program (D-EFAP)
- Drought Food Assistance Program (DFAP) - 2014 to 2017
- Food for Families Fund (Tax Check-off)
- 'Imagine No Hunger' Specialized License Plate Program
