Finding Your Purpose

Purpose comes readily to some people, but not most of us. It takes time to emerge. It dawns on us after a lot of reflection on our life, our values, our loves, our accomplishments, our heartaches, and our needs.

Exploring Your Inner Strength

Where does your strength come from? How have you survived everything you’ve been through? Here are some questions to help you explore your sources of inner strength.

  • Jot down your answers to the following questions:

What makes you want to get up in the morning?
How do you motivate yourself?
What do you like to do when you are by yourself?
What makes you feel good on the inside?
What do you do when you are afraid?
What inspires you?

  • What does it mean to you to have inner strength?
  • Finish this sentence. “To me, spirituality is _______________________________ .”
  • Thinking back, what are some things that you have done in your life so far that you think might be spiritual in some way?
  • What are some things that you have seen other people do that you think are spiritual?
  • Of all these ways of being spiritual, which do you feel is most important?

Try exploring the Radical Self Realisation Guide.

theradicalself

Self realisation is understanding one’s true self; which is distance from the mental chaos that ensues us in our everyday life. It is realizing our full potential and that all we want and need already lies within us.

So begins the Radical Self Realisation Guide, an 8-page booklet that takes you on a journey through your soul, your superheroes, your natural talents, and your next actions as you live your life in line with your authentic self.

Your Life Story

Writing a story about your life can help you find meaning and value in your experiences. It will allow you to organize your thoughts and use them to grow. People who develop stories about their life tend to experience a greater sense of meaning, which can contribute to happiness. You can use the Life Story: Past, Present and Future from TherapistAid.com to help you to uncover your strengths and the ways you have grown and are continuing to grow. You may find it helpful to do this activity together with your social worker, therapist or another trusted adult.
