Community Service Requirement in CalWORKs

This ACL reminds counties that they are required to include a community service component as part of their county plan. The authority for this requirement is W&IC §11322.9 and MPP §42-780.12.

Adult recipients required to participate in WTW who have received CalWORKs for the applicable 18 or 24 month period, and are not working a sufficient amount of hours to meet the WTW participation requirement, must participate in community service and/or unsubsidized employment in order to continue to receive CalWORKs.

As of the date of this ACL, the CDSS had received a community service plan for review and certification from less than half the counties.
