Reference: MPP 63-503.35 and .36
Food Stamp shelter and utility deduction regulations changed effective July 1, 1997. The methodology for determining shelter and utility deductions has been changed.
In shared living arrangements, counties need to determine how many households in the residence are contributing to shelter and/or utility costs. Each contributing household receives either a proration of shared utility costs or the actual utilities, depending on the choice made by the Food Stamp household.
