Item 98-12-01Q
CDHS ACWDL 98-36 -- August 27, 1998 (Synopsis): Redetermination of Refugee Medi-Cal Benefits

When refugees receive time limited Medi-Cal benefits, the county must redetermine if the refugee is eligible for Medi-Cal prior to the end of the month of refugee aid. Federal regulations require Medi-Cal benefits be maintained until the beneficiary’s eligibility for ongoing benefits can be determined.

The county should review the file to determine if there is any other basis for Medi-Cal eligibility. The county should request information from the recipient if there is not enough information to make an eligibility determination. If the recipient fails to provide the requested information within twenty days from the mailing of the request for information, benefits can then be terminated.
