Item 99-05-01H
CDHS ACWDL 99-01 -- January 11, 1999 (Synopsis): Mail-In Procedures For Children and Pregnant Women

Reference: ACWDLs 95-28; 95-52; 98-06; 98-09; 98-16; 98-19; 98-39; 98-42

This ACWDL provides counties with policies and instructions for processing mail-in Medi-Cal applications for children and pregnant women. It reminds counties to process the mail-in applications for children and pregnant women without delay and not to hold the application to evaluate eligibility for other family members who may be applying for Medi-Cal. Counties are only to request information that is necessary to determine if the pregnant woman or children are eligible for the Percent Programs and should base their determination of eligibility upon whether such pregnant woman or child(ren) meets the criteria for the applicable Percent program. If the child or pregnant woman meets the criteria for the Percent Program, there should be no delays in issuing benefits.

Counties may follow up with other potentially eligible family members after the initial eligibility determination is made and processed.

Counties are reminded not to ask for property information or verification for children and pregnant women when they receive the mail-in application.
