No Jurisdiction in Healthy Families Program Cases
The Healthy Families program was implemented in 1998 to provide improved and less costly health insurance to families that do not qualify for Medi-Cal. The Healthy Families Program benefits include; doctor and specialist visits, hospital care, prescription drugs, emergency care, mental health, immunizations, dental exams and cleaning, eyeglasses and fillings.
Healthy Families is not a Medi-Cal program. Because it is not a Medi-Cal or other social service program, CDSS judges do not have jurisdiction to review any actions concerning the Healthy Families program. If a claimant requests a hearing concerning a Healthy Families issue, the claim must be dismissed.
Judges may refer claimants to 1 (800) 880-5305 or 1 (888) 747-1222 if they want additional information concerning Healthy Families. ACWDLs that discuss the Healthy Families Program include 97-61, 98-19, 98-27, 98-39, 98-52, 99-06, 99-46 and others.
