California Farm to CACFP Survey—for family Child Care Providers
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Branch will distribute the California Farm to CACFP Survey for family child care providers this summer in English and Spanish. The CDSS will share more information about this survey in July at an upcoming virtual informational session for Day Care Home Sponsors.
The purpose of the survey is to gather baseline data to measure the implementation of the California Farm to CACFP Initiative.
The Farm to CACFP Initiative is comprised of three elements:
- Purchasing local foods
- Providing nutrition and agriculture-based education
- Providing hands-on learning in an edible garden
The CDSS CACFP Branch is interested in finding out whether family child care providers are currently participating in Farm to CACFP activities. The survey will also identify resources needed and assess interest in Farm to CACFP training.
California Farm to CACFP Census—for Centers and Day Care Home Sponsors
The CDSS CACFP Branch completed the first ever California Farm to CACFP Census which was targeted to child care centers, at-risk afterschool programs, adult day care centers, emergency shelters and day care home sponsors. The Census was distributed on March 12, 2025 and closed on April 18, 2025. Approximately 39% of CACFP Operators responded to the Census! The CDSS CACFP Branch is currently analyzing the data and will provide summary results this fall.
