IHSS Provider Orientation
Thank you for your interest in becoming a provider in the IHSS program! Currently, over 500,000 individuals in
California are enrolled as IHSS providers to help people continue to live safely in their homes.
Your role as a provider is critical in making it possible for individuals to remain safely in their homes, where
they can enjoy personal freedom and independence, and continue being part of their community.
To become an IHSS provider, complete the steps below by contacting your county IHSS Office or county IHSS Public Authority to sign up to attend an orientation and for more information about their county-specific orientation process.
How to Become an IHSS Provider
- Go to an IHSS Provider Orientation given by the county. Here you will learn important information about the
program and the requirements for you to follow as a provider.
- Complete, sign and return the IHSS Program Provider Enrollment Form (SOC 426) directly to the County IHSS Office or IHSS Public Authority. For additional guidance, contact your County IHSS Office or IHSS Public Authority. Do not send the form to CDSS.
- Complete and sign the IHSS Provider Enrollment Agreement (SOC 846) . This is the agreement that ALL IHSS
providers are required to sign.
- Get fingerprinted and go through a criminal background check by the California Department of Justice.
