Better Youth, Inc. & Local 871 Monday, April 27 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am Exploring Union Pathways:  

Better Youth will share how we build a comprehensive workforce pipeline for foster and system-impacted youth—integrating pre-apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship pathways with a robust support model designed to improve persistence and completion. Attendees will gain insight into our industry-aligned creative career tracks, along with recent program outcomes and key employer partnerships.

IATSE Local 871 will introduce attendees to the fundamentals of unionism and the critical role unions play in supporting workers. The session will cover how Local 871 advocates for its members in the entertainment industry, the benefits of union membership, and the various pathways to joining the union.


Note: This presentation will promptly begin at 9:30 am during the regularly scheduled IACA Homeless & Foster Youth Subcommittee meeting.

Youth Build Tuesday, April 28 @ 12 - 1 pm In this one hour webinar, YouthBuild Charter School of California (YCSC) will share how we prepare opportunity youth (youth ages 16-24 who were previously disconnected from work and school) or career pathways and apprenticeships through education, hands-on training, and leadership development. YCSC and its YouthBuild program partners offer opportunities for hands-on job training, pre-apprenticeships, work-based learning, and career exploration in several fields, including construction, culinary arts, and advanced manufacturing (COYA). Propel America Wednesday, April 29 @ 10 - 11 am Propel America launched its first medical assistant apprenticeship program in Los Angeles in fall of 2025 in partnership with the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County (CCALAC) and their member health centers.

Propel is actively growing our next cohort and is recruiting both apprentices and additional employer partners to partner with us.

Alongside partners like Loyola Marymount University, Unite LA, and Goodwill SoCal, we are thrilled to be building a model to address a critical talent need in Los Angeles.

BAVC Media has welcomed our inaugural cohort of media producer apprentices with a strong emphasis on hands-on learning and real-world production experience, working not only internally with the BAVC team but with external clients such as SF Pride and other local non-profits.

Building on this momentum, BAVC Media has continually refined its existing editing pre-apprenticeship program through the COYA grant to successfully expand our reach with opportunity youth. These iterations have enabled us to successfully scale the program to support multiple cohorts, increasing access and opportunity for emerging media professionals.
