CalWORKs Housing Support Program
The CalWORKs Housing Support Program (HSP) was established by Senate Bill (SB) 855 (Chapter 29, Statutes of 2014) to foster housing stability for families experiencing homelessness in the CalWORKs program.
In Fiscal Year (FY) 2019-20 CalWORKs HSP funding increased to $95 million ongoing annually to assist low-income families in obtaining and maintaining housing.
HSP offers financial assistance and housing-related wrap-around supportive services, including, but not limited to: rental assistance, housing navigation, case management, security deposits, utility payments, moving costs, hotel and motel vouchers, legal services, and credit repair.
For more information about the program, see the Housing Support Program (HSP) Fact Sheet.
HSP assists families in the CalWORKs program that are experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of homelessness. For HSP, “homeless” is defined by CDSS in the All County Welfare Directors Letter (ACWDL) dated May 13, 2021.
