This letter describes a variety of types of VA educational benefits including Veterans’ Educational Assistance Program (VEAP), Vocational Rehabilitation, Montgomery GI Bills, a Vietnam Era GI Bill and a Dependent’s GI Bill. VA educational program benefits are exempt from consideration as income only to the extent that the monies are used to meet educational expenses. The one-third portion of VEAP benefits that represent a return of the veteran’s money is not income.
