June is Immigrant Heritage Month

Previous Years

Immigrant Heritage Month takes place in the month of June with World Refugee Day taking place on June 20th.  World Refugee Day honors the courage, strength, and
determination of men, women, and children who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution, conflict, and violence.  This annual celebration recognizes the hard-working network of refugee resettlement agencies in our state and highlights the remarkable achievements of refugees throughout California.

Along with World Refugee Day, the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), Refugee Programs Bureau (RPB) is also celebrating “Immigrant Heritage Month."

Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed the month of June to honor and celebrate the contributions of courageous immigrants and refugees who left their homes, lives, and loved ones to seek refuge and opportunity in the United States.  California is called home for more immigrants than any other state in the country.  We continue to embrace and celebrate the contributions made by our immigrant and refugee communities and acknowledge them as critical assets to the success of our state and economy.
