The Child Care Program partners with government agencies, providers, parents, and the private sector to strengthen child care health and safety. Below are the work groups leading this effort.

CAL FIRE – Office of the State Fire Marshal AB 176 – Child Care Center Work Group

The goal of the Child Care Center Work Group is to provide recommendations to the State Fire Marshal for code change proposals for the California Building Standards. The code change proposals will address the occupancy classification provisions for daycare centers. This Work Group reports to the State Fire Marshal to provide recommendations to enable the State Fire Marshal to understand regulations pertaining to the occupancy and fire and life safety requirements for Child Care Centers.

AB 262 Children’s Camp Workgroup

Under the guidance of CCLD, this workgroup will engage various stakeholders, including parent advocate groups, state entities, local parks, and local health and environmental health departments, to inform its recommendations. The goals include defining children's camps, recommending baseline health and safety standards, and identifying the agency or agencies best suited to provide regulatory oversight. The final recommendations, including estimated implementation costs, will be submitted to the Legislature in a formal report no later than 24 months following the funding appropriation on July 1, 2025.
